Bunnie Xo is opening up about her journey to welcome a baby with husband Jelly Roll.
During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE about her upcoming novel Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic, the stepmom of two gets candid about her in-vitro fertilization (IVF) journey. Bunnie, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, tells PEOPLE she believes her path to welcome children has been challenging so that she can be a voice for others.
"I don't know if it's that I did or if I didn't choose it, but I think before we come here, we choose our life path, and we yearn for the pain that we go through," she tells PEOPLE. "And I genuinely think that having those abortions when I was younger [and] the journey that I'm going on now with IVF [is] God's putting me through this again, so that I can be a voice for those women who are going through this process."

Bunnie, who's stepmom to Jelly's daughter Bailee Ann, 17, and son Noah Buddy, 9, adds her journey with IVF is "one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through."
"And there are women out there that are doing 10 to 15 egg retrievals. They are freaking warriors. My hat goes off to these women, and they're just such a cool community," she shares. "So God is... Everything happens for a reason. It always comes around full circle."

Back in June, Bunnie shared a bright moment in her otherwise challenging IVF journey. In a video shared to her Instagram, the podcast host revealed that she had a "huge win" after getting a phone call related to her IVF journey. Bunnie got emotional as she received the call in the short clip.
"When you just got the call you've been waiting on for 5 months since this ivf journey started," she wrote. "All the tears, the hopelessness & the struggle, God finally said, 'Here.' 😭."
In the comments of her post, Bunnie Xo clarified that she wasn't pregnant yet, but had taken a step forward in her journey. "This is not a pregnancy announcement - we won't announce that," she said. "This is just a huge win for us 🙏🏻🤍💫✨."
